Thank you to all the coaches, teams, players and parents for making our NCS Spring Fling tournament such an incredible success this last weekend in Glendale and Buckeye, AZ! We had 24 teams competing for championships in 4 different age divisions! We handed out 5 champion and finalist team rings as well as 60 Player of the Game awards! Here are the results from this event: 8U Gold AZ Bisons - Champions American Made Athletics - Finalist After coming into Sunday as the number 3 seed (1-1), the AZ Bisons first took care of In The Zone Matadors to make it to the championship game. After losing to American Made Athletics 9-10 on Saturday, the Bisons went on to defeat American Made Athletics 7-4 to take home their first NCS Championship! This was the First NCS Cafarelli event for American Made Athletics who were 3-0 heading into the championship game, which was a really good showing.
This was the second NCS Cafarelli tournament for In The Zone Athletics, after most recently taking home the championship at the NCS Super Bowl Saturday Tournament. This was Young Vaqueros 5th NCS Cafarelli tournament and 9th NCS tournament overall this year. They most recently won the silver bracket Championship at our NCS Cafarelli Spring Training Classic tournament. This was the first NCS tournament for Trosky 8/9u who scored more runs each game they played, and competed hard all weekend. Hopefully we will see you again soon! 9U Gold 🥇 Arizona Mayhem - Champions Tucson Riot - Finalist Arizona Mayhem went 3-0 on Sunday to with the Championship over Tucson Riot. They were 1-1 after 2 close games on Saturday but outscored their opponents 52-23 on Sunday. This was the 4th NCS tournament for Mayhem and their second championship after winning the silver bracket championship at the NCS Cafarelli Spring Training Classic. After losing to the Arizona Athletics on Saturday, Tucson Riot barely defeated the Athletics on Sunday 17-16 to play in the championship game and end up as finalists. This was the second NCS Cafarelli event for Tucson Riot, as they won the Bronze Championship at the Spring Training Classic in March. The Arizona Athletics were the number 2 seed heading into Sunday, after defeating Tucson Riot and barely losing to Arizona Mayhem 9-10 on Saturday. This was the second NCS Cafarelli event for the Athletics as they continue to improve! The AZ Rattlesnakes started off great on Saturday going 2-0 and outscoring their opponents 29-15. They lost to the eventual champions on Sunday. This was their second NCS Cafarelli tournament, and if they keep playing like they are they will win a championship sooner than later. MMW Arizona 9u also participated in the 9u division. They scored 7 runs in each of their 3 games, but struggled to hold their opponents to less than that. This was their first NCS Cafarelli tournament and I am sure with a focus on defense that they will start winning more of their games very soon. 12U Gold 🥇 Wolves Baseball 2031 AAA - Champions Birdgang Baseball - Finalist After their first lost of the weekend to the Dust Devils, Wolves Baseball 2031 AAA won 3 straight on their way to winning the Championship! They even avenged the earlier defeat by beating the Dust Devils 10-5 in the semi-final game. Wolves Baseball have played in 3 NCS Cafarelli tournaments and this is their first Championship, congratulations! Birdgang Baseball once again made it to the championship game, which is their fourth straight championship game out of 5 total NCS Cafarelli tournaments. They have won 2 silver bracket championships but have come up just short in both of their gold championship games, including this time against Wolves Baseball. The Wolfpack had a great start to the weekend going 2-0 on Saturday and outscoring their opponents 27-4 in the process. They ended up losing their semi-final game just missing the championship. This was the third NCS Cafarelli tournament Wolfpack has played in and they continue to improve each and every outing. The Arizona Dust Devils ended up being the third seed after 4 of the 6 teams ended at 1-1 on Saturday. They defeated PDP Athletics on Sunday to make it to the semi-final game before losing to the eventual champions Wolves Baseball. The Tucans were also 1-1 on Saturday before losing to Birdgang on Sunday. Their lone victory was against the Arizona Dust Devils, but they continue to improve every tournament they play in. This was the Tucans 4th NCS Cafarelli Tournament this year. This was PDP Athletics first NCS Cafarelli Tournament this year. They competed hard against some really tough competition. Coming from Chandler, AZ we hope to see them again real soon! 14U Gold 🥇 Diablos - Champions AZ Boyz Baseball - Finalist The Diablos ended up going 4-0 on their way to winning another NCS Cafarelli Championship. They defense is undeniable as they outscored their opponents 27-8. This is the 10th NCS Cafarelli Tournament for the Diablos (including the HS Showcase event), and their third championship win in 6 championship games. The AZ Boyz also were undefeated heading into the championship game after outscoring their opponents 30-5 in those games. This was their first loss in their last 12 games with NCS, playing in their 4th NCS Cafarelli tournament this year and playing in the championship game in every one up to this point (2-2 in championship games). The Queen Creek Rattlers 14u White went 2-0 on Saturday, but were shut out by the Diablos in a close 3-0 game. This was the Rattlers first NCS Cafarelli tournament this year, and going 2-1 is a good showing. Rounding out the gold bracket was 928 Baseball Club Teal, out of Yuma, AZ. They struggled with consistency this tournament, playing in their 2nd NCS Cafarelli tournament and 5th NCS Tournament overall. They played in one championship game in San Diego earlier this year. 14U Silver 🥇 FCA Lofton Baseball - Champions Birdgang Baseball - Finalist FCA Lofton was the 7th seed heading into Sunday after going 0-2 and being outscored 18-3. Birdgang Baseball was the fifth seed after going 1-1 on Saturday and was the first team in the silver bracket. After defeating Krigare Athletics in a tightly contested 2-1 final, they lost in the Championship game to FCA Lofton. This was the 9th NCS Cafarelli tournament for Birdgang and they are 2-4 in championship games. The Tucson Sidewinders lost both of their games by 1 run on Saturday (4-5 vs Diablos, and 9-10 vs Queen Creek Rattlers), and couldn't put it all together on Sunday this weekend. This was the 5th NCS Cafarelli tournament for them this season, and they have played for one championship at the High School Black Friday tournament in November.
